Before the 2016 Oscars, one of the biggest award ceremonies in the movie industry, many actors and actresses refused to attend and decided to boycott the event due to the lack of diversity among the nominees. For the second year in a row, there was not a single non-white actor nominated for an award. Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith, Spike Lee were a couple of the big-name celebrities that decided not to attend. This nonviolent refusal to attend one of the biggest events of the year brought attention to the issue of diversity. WS
