Bolivian Generalized Strike
In 2003, Bolivians carried out a series of strikes and blockades to force the government to nationalize the country's natural gas industry and invest in low - income minority communities. In the town of El Alto, the workers from every industry carried out a general strike. The protestors and strikers were met with violence by the government which resulted in a number of deaths, and is now referred to as the "Gas Wars".
