During the Burma Socialist Programme Party’s rule in Myanmar, U Aung Gyi, a prominant general, wrote a series of public letters to General Ne Win and former members of the Revolutionary council. These letters were written between 1988 and 1992, and criticized the economic policies of the government, as well as human rights abuses. The letters emphasized the need for change, and urged the government to pay attention to events that were constantly unfolding, day by day. The letters resonated with large numbers of citizens to the government, and pushed the government to take action.
