In 2019, a Nicaragua newspaper ran a blank front page in protest of the Ortega government. This newspaper is the oldest and most-widely read newspaper, but supplies for ink and paper were cut short for 20 weeks by the government. The blank front page was a representation of what it would be like to live in a world without that daily information. They believed that the government was attacking their freedom of expression, and the blank front page showed a message to those who read the newspaper that they were under attack, and their information was being limited by indirect censorship.
