In 2019 a California, USA, police department got harsh criticism over a video showing officers using excessive force on an unarmed black man. 24 year old William Ewell was detained for an alleged robbery. His arrest was filmed by a woman who was able to get the name of the victim and claimed to have recorded because her boyfriend had also been a victim of police brutality. The video went viral and criticism came, calling out the police department for targeting a black man who supposedly fit a description. This spread awareness for the severity of police brutality and harrassment across the US.
